Innovar, L.L.C. handles U.S., PCT International and foreign patent preparation and prosecution. Innovar focuses on pharmaceutical and medical technologies: drugs, formulations, methods of treatment, three-dimensional printing, manufacturing processes of all types, diagnostics, medical devices, etc. We work on all types of compounds, from simple to complex organics to polymers, proteins, enzymes, natural products, synthetics, and semi-synthetics. We prosecute patents in all therapeutic areas and also handle mechanical arts related patents (machinery, large and small equipment, manufacturing processes) as well as software, method of doing business, and consumer product related patents.
We also offer a range of patent, technology consulting and training services. Our rates are 40-70% below those of larger firms. We keep our overhead low and your costs to a minimum, while at the same time providing you the best service available.

We have secured broadening reissue patents and have won numerous appeals in the U.S.P.T.O. and other patent offices abroad. History
Innovar, L.L.C. was founded by Rick Matos, Ph.D. on March 1, 2000 as a full-service patent preparation and prosecution, patent maintenance, patent portfolio management, technology consulting and training firm with the key objectives of helping clients develop and secure patent protection for relevant technologies that serve the public and of providing the absolute best service at rates well below those charged by other firms. Innovar has grown and sustained its business primarily through client referral.
Innovar has handled over two thousand patents and applications worldwide for its clients, which have included domestic and international fortune 100, large-cap, and small-cap corporations, universities, and individuals. Innovar manages the worldwide patent portfolio for several of its clients.

Rick Matos, Ph.D., Patent Agent
Dr. Matos is the founder of Innovar, L.L.C. His key objectives focus on assisting clients to successfully develop and commercialize products that provide a social benefit. His clients have many FDA-APPROVED PRODUCTS, and he has helped clients craft and very successfully execute exit and/or commercialization objectives.
Dr. Matos has over thirty-four years of experience in the pharmaceutical arena as a researcher and consultant including over twenty-eight years of experience as a patent practitioner. He is also a public speaker, ad hoc speaker at universities, IP speaker and trainer, published author of scientific articles, and inventor of pharmaceutical and chemical process technologies.
Dr. Matos is fluent in Spanish and his top-ten Clifton Strengths include strategic, learner, ideation, achiever, connectedness, communication, belief, futuristic, input, and analytical. As creator of the synergistic CRE-8-IVE Innovations series, Dr. Matos, together with clients, creates new platform or product-specific technologies often overlooked within client’s organizations.
Dr. Matos earned his doctorate in Bioorganic Chemistry from TAMU (dissertation: chemical and enzymatic synthesis of penicillin, amino acids and other natural products). He conducted research at DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company, focusing primarily on large-scale process development and drug discovery in a broad range of therapeutic areas. After advancing to Project Leader within R&D, Dr. Matos transferred internally to work as a patent agent. He then helped establish the pharmaceutical practice of the Intellectual Property division’s Dallas office of a major law firm. Dr. Matos founded Innovar upon his departure from that firm in 2000.
